summary for the working groups’ first session of meetings in 2006
research | 2006/4/22the working groups for the future mobile communication forum held their first session of meetings in hongyun hall of xiyuan hotel in beijing from april 20 to april 21, 2006. two vice chairmen of the future mobile communication forum, prof. you xiaohu and prof. zhang ping, together with members of the six working groups from the varied member institutions or universities of the forum, attended the meeting. principals of the forum’s six working groups reported on their development goals, research contents and current year’s working plans respectively. wg1，wg2 and wg3 groups also discussed the preparatory work specific for the shanghai four-party forum meeting.
representatives attending the meeting made intense discussions concerning the varied groups’ situations and reports submitted by members. ideas and suggestions were formulated as followed:
1 users’ condition and business situation were analyzed from perspectives of users’ demand, and new means of categorization were proposed; discussions on other relevant international organizations in dealing with user’s demand are conducted, which accordingly provided guidance to the study of china’s users’ demand.
2 the demand situation for future mobile communication frequency spectrum was studied. according to the frequency bands provided by international telecommunication union as reference, the frequency bands suitable for china’s usage were individually analyzed, and a detailed list of the frequency bands that may be used in china was made.
3 new telecommunication concepts, such as wirelesslamp, were proposed. contents for discussion involve group cell technology, ldc-tas, relay system and ofdm etc.. during the meeting, specialists had vigorous debate over the feasibility of applying these technologies and systems in future mobile communication and the technical difficulties that may be encountered.
4 new modes of wireless resource management technology were discussed, including ad hoc enabled td-scdma etc. the varied members introduced their research points regarding rrm, and had great discussions over the new rrm technology. the research direction for the following phase has been determined.
5 the architectural situation for future mobile communication network, including csf proposed by motorola inc., was discussed.
during the meeting, specialists made in-depth analysis on and exploration into the varied working aspects of the member groups, identified the research direction and working method for the following phase, and agreed on a further enhanced inter-group cooperation.
in the summary meeting held on the afternoon of april 21st, the forum’s vice chairmen prof. you and prof. zhang approved the work done by the varied members of the groups, and provided guidance for the working groups’ activities from strategic perspectives, and for the designing and planning of research content from technical perspectives. they regarded the meeting as a grand beginning, and hoped that, through active participation, in-depth communication and broad exchange, all the members would be able to consistently improve technologies, thus to better continue the work, and make sustainable progress.
