the japan trip of the future mobile communication forum delegation

the research on b3g technology was placed on the agenda, so the cooperation between china and japan in the field of mobile communication has been gradually strengthened. future forum organized a visit to japan in order to discuss on the plan for the follow-up cooperation between china and japan launched after the visit to japan in august last year, as well as to get aware of the latest development achieved by japan or some other countries in the research on mobile communication technology and consequently make certain communications and exchanges of ideas with experts from japan and other foreign countries.
the delegation consists of mr. you xiaohu, secretary-general of future forum; ms. fu jun, deputy secretary-general of future forum, prof. hong wei and prof. cheng shixin from southeast university, and other experts from beijing university of posts and telecommunications and tsinghua university.
a warm welcome banquet
it was sunny but a little cold in march in japan. warmly welcomed by the japanese representatives, the members of the chinese delegation refreshed from their long and exhausting journey and started their visit as soon as they had arrived.
on the evening of march 28th, a grand banquet was given by the yrp r&d promotion committee japan in honour of the guests from china. the representatives in the japanese delegation included mr. manaby kanaya, director of telecommunications bureau of japan ministry of internal affairs and communications, and his companions, mr. yamamoto, deputy mayor of yokosuka city, mr. senf, president assistant of ict forum, mr. hideo sekiguchi, director general and secretariat of yrp r&d promotion committee, mr. yuichi handa, managing director and coo of yrp business development institute, inc., mr. takashi inose from ntt communication, mr. takanori utano, chief technical officer of ntt docomo, mr. masahiro minomo, president and ceo of docomo beijing communications laboratories co., ltd., mr. kiyohito tokuda, general manager of wireless technology r&d division of ssc of oki electric industry co., ltd., mr. yoshio takeuchi, senior manager of wireless broadband laboratory at yrp research center of kddi r&d laboratories inc., mr. hiroyo ogawa, director of yokosuka radio communications research center of national institute of information and communications technology, mr. satoshi kobayashi and dr. kohei satoh, managing directors of association of radio industries and business, mr. eisaku watanabe, manager of strategic department of nec, mr. a. semihiroshi, manager of global development department of fujitsu, mr. minoru kuramoto, executive technology advisor of panasonic, mr. norio kanno, manager of planning & administration department of communication systems group at mitsubishi electric corporation, mr. akihiro shibuya, senior manager of wireless communication technology department of mitsubishi electric corporation, and so on.
mr. motai from yrp r&d promotion committee delivered the welcome speech, expressing his greeting and thankfulness to mr. you and all other distinguished guests from ict for their support to the forum and their contribution to the sino-japanese cooperation in b3g research and development. mr. takanori utano, vice executive president of ntt docomo, and mr. manabu kanaya, director international cooperation of mobile communication department of mic, also extended greetings in their speeches. on behalf of all the representatives in chinese delegation, mr. you and ms. fu from future forum then gave speeches expressing their gratefulness. in his speech, mr. you briefly introduced future forum and extended appreciation for the support and assistance given by the japanese organizations, as well as the contribution the japanese members have made for the establishment of the forum. he hoped more organizations that would like to devote to the development of the future mobile communication could join the forum and work together to promote the future mobile communication in both china and japan.
seminar on global imt advanced
cherry blossoms are flurishing in march when japanese like to enjoy themselves under the cherry blossoms with their families and friends, drinking and chatting. but the members of the delegation had no time to appreciate the beautiful sceneries, as they still had a compact shedule in the following two days.
on 28 and 29 of march, the chinese delegation participated in the seminar on global imt advanced organized by ministry of internal affairs and communications of japan. the seminar was also attended by the governmental officials from european commission, representatives from wwrf of europe and ngmc of korea, and nearly 200 experts and scholars from various countries. ms. noriko furuya, parliamentary secretary of mic, and dr. nagao, president of nict, extended their warm welcome in the opening remarks and welcome speech. mr. shun sakurai, director-general of radio department of mic, then gave a speech on “policies on next-generation mobile communications” in which he introduced the development of the wireless system in japan, illustrated japan’s determination to promote the open policies of b3g frequency, and described the plan for the next generation frequency reallocation and the periodic outcome of the research on the new wireless broadband technologies.
dr. joao da silva, official from european union, reported on “european union supporting r&d and initiatives of wireless communications”, introducing the current situation of the european market including the trend of mobile business and demands on broadband, the progress of lte, the principles and outcomes of the research on the new standards, as well as the plan and vision for b3g in europe.
on behalf of future forum, mr. you delivered a speech on “future forum and china’s r&d of b3g”, in which he first introduced the establishment, current development, operating system, as well as the objectives of future forum and then gave a detailed description of the progresses that china had made in the b3g research and development.
during the two-day seminar, more than 20 reports or speeches were given by experts and scholars from the communication industry. an exhibition about the achievements of advanced wireless technologies was also held during the seminar so that the attendants could get some visual information on the design, the research process, and the demonstrative effects of certain technologies. also, during the seminar, ,the experts from all countries were invited to visit ntt docomo research centre and kddi research institute and had wide and comprehensive discussions on the future development of b3g technology.
attaching great importance to future forum, the japanese host mentioned repeatedly in the reports on the seminar as well as in many other occasions about the important role played by future forum, and expressed their gratitude for the contribution that future forum had made in the sino-japanese cooperation in mobile communication and the b3g development.
through the exchange and communication with the experts and scholars from japan, korea, eu and other countries, we had a better understanding of the b3g development project and the policies to promote the new generation wireless mobile communication industry which will be the valuable reference for china to make our own r&d plan and set up policies related to the industry of communication.
the end
the short visit to japan with great significance ended in the good wishes of both china and japan. during the visit, it was further clarified that china and japan would work together to promote the friendship and cooperation, laid a good groundwork for the future b3g research through the enhancement of the communications and exchanges between the two sides, and gathered strength to internationalize the forum. of course, there is still a long way for future forum to go in order to become an open and international communication platform, but it is believed that future forum will eventually realize its objective through such communications and cooperation from which it can absorb experience and power for its later development.
