the fourth working group meeting of future forum was held in beijing, which was the last working group meeting in the year of 2007. having almost fulfilled their work according to the working plan of 2007, the working groups made the last pectination and revision of the white paper 2007 and further discussed the future objectives and methodology on the meeting.

the working groups have been making some remarkable achievements through the exploration for two years. wg1 which focuses on user requirements has been endeavoring to describe the features of the user-friendly communication systems and technology with certain “user-oriented” methodology and plans to cooperate with other working groups in the future to further promote the top-down research on future technologies. wg2 that concentrates on services and applications expanded their methodology for work in 2007 and attracted more representatives from the members to join wg2 so that it is believed that wg2 will gain greater achievement in the year coming up. wg3 responsible for spectrum research has made sufficient research on wrc-07 during the past two years and actively participated in the projects organized by srrc so as to input mature measurement data and modes into the white paper of 2007. wg4, wg5 and wg6, based on the former researches, have formed several emphases with certain pertinence in their work, on which the members have been cooperating and making substantial progresses as well, such as ldpc, modulation techniques for turbo code, and mimo technology related to wg4; voip and relay based resource management technology covered by wg5; and researches on ad hoc network and end-to-end recollocatable wireless network that are interested by wg6.

on the summary meeting held on december 21st, the chairman of each working group reported respectively to mr. zhang xinsheng, director of department of science and technology, mii. finally, prof. you xiaohu made relevant assessments on the fourth working group meeting, giving high remarks to the work that has been done during 2007 by the six working groups for their richer research content and more mature research methodology. it is expected that the working groups will continue to strengthen the top-down initiative researches while more projects are expected to set related to the next generation mobile communication which will bring greater room for the research of futrue forum. the secretariat will keep improving the service to the government and the members and fulfill its function as a bridge for communication.
