both sides of the taiwan straits cooperate to promote the development of future mobile communication industry
seminar | 2007/1/24invited by taiwan 3g club, future forum delegation, headed by mr. yu shengduo, director of division of high-tech, department of science and technology of mii, and prof. you xiaohu, secretary-general of future forum, paid a ten-day visit to a dozen of famous enterprises, research institutes and universities in taiwan mobile communication industry, during which the seminar on the development of advanced technology in telecommunication industry on both sides of the taiwan straits was successfully held.
future forum delegation consisted of 13 representatives, including, mr. yang lincun, deputy director of intellectual property affairs center of most, ms. wang zhiqin, deputy director of institute of communication standards research, china academy of telecom. research, ms. fu jun, vice secretary-general of future forum, leaders from department of science and technology of mii, and experts from future expert group.
future forum delegation in turn visited taiwan telecommunication technology planning office, taiwan economy research institute, institute for information industry, industrial technology research institute, li guoding digital knowledge promotion committee, several research institutes and universities such as taiwan tsinghua university and taiwan transportation university, and some famous enterprises such as mediatek inc, compal communications inc, and benq corporate.
during the visit, future forum delegation was warmly welcomed and communicated with experts on taiwan communication industry about the academic issues related to b3g/4g technology, market development and prospect of new technology. representatives of taiwan introduced to future forum delegation a long-term scientific and technological program in telecommunication industry named “telecommunication technology plan” and industrial development plan in wireless communication, broadband network and telecommunication application. some experts also introduced the content and implementation of “m-taiwan” project. both sides gained a better understanding of the development trend of b3g/4g and other related technologies and shared the experience and lessons obtained in the technological r&d and industrialization through heated discussion and communication among the experts from both mainland and taiwan. besides, both sides had a further exchange on the intellectual property issues faced with the technological r&d and industrialization.
on january 16th, future forum and 3g club jointly held the seminar on the development of advanced technology in telecommunication industry on both sides of the taiwan straits, in order to make the development of future mobile communication technology on both sides of taiwan straits better known, enhance the mutual understanding between both sides, and further promote the communication and cooperation between the mainland and taiwan. the seminar was attended by over 100 representatives respectively from future forum delegation and taiwan relative communities.
mr. xu shengxiong, chairman of 3g club, made a welcome speech on the seminar, in which he indicated that taiwan communication industry was paying a lot of attention to the development of communication technology all over the world, especially in mainland china. mr. xu hoped that taiwan communication industry, with its remarkable innovative ability and limited market capacity, could closely cooperated with the research institutes in mainland china, hongkong, and even all around the world in order to promote the development of future mobile communication technology. mr. yu shengduo, addressed on behalf of future forum delegation, briefly introduced china’s mobile communication market in recent years and the development of 3g/b3g mobile communication technology such as td-scdma, and he hoped that both sides of taiwan straits could cooperate with each other, share the advantages and jointly promote the development of communication industry on both sides.
prof. you xiaohu, secretary-general of future forum, director of the national key laboratory of southeast university, introduced the general situation of the r&d of 3g and b3g mobile communication technology as well as the operation of future forum; prof. wang jing from tsinghua university introduced the progresses made for the future project in the national 863 plan as well as the status quo of shanghai trial system; ms. wang zhiqin, deputy director of institute of communication standards research, china academy of telecom. research, and prof. li shaoqian, director of the national key laboratory in uestc, respectively introduced the r&d of mobile communication standardization in mainland china and the advancement of innovative broadband wireless access technology. the above lectures effectively brought forth the rapid development of mobile communication technology and standardization in mainland china, especially china’s innovative r&d ability in mobile communication industry which keeps ahead around the world.
mr. zheng xufeng, researcher at division of technology, ministry of economy of taiwan, and dr. feng wensheng, from information and communication center of industrial technology research institute, respectively made an introduction of the current situation and industrial policies of wimax technology and the development plan for 4g technology in taiwan. in addition, all the representatives had heated communication and discussion on some hot issues such as the development of td-scdma industry, service and operation of 3g application, and the r&d of key 4g technology.
the communication activity and seminar held during the visit were regarded as an opportunity for both sides to gain a better understanding of the development of information & communication industry as well as the r&d of advanced technology, and to greatly promote the communication and cooperation between both sides of the taiwan straits in information & communication industry, especially the development of b3g/4g technology. as the links between both sides of taiwan straits, future forum and 3g club will continuously endeavor to contribute to the joint development of mobile communication technology on both sides of taiwan straits, and closely cooperate in various aspect including information exchange, deliberation on technology and joint r&d activities.
