the 4th working group meeting of future forum was held in holiday inn in sanya, hainan province from november 29th to december 1st of 2006. the meeting was attended by prof. you xiaohu, secretary-general of future forum, ms. fujun, vice secretary-general of future forum, and over 70 representatives from the members as well as from the secretariat. prof. wang jing from tsinghua university and prof. li shaoqian from uestc were invited to attend the meeting as distinguished experts.

the meeting lasted for three days during which the sub-group meetings were held on november 29th and 30th. based on the previous three meetings, great achievements have been made during the sub-group meetings in the 4th working group meeting. the white papers have been initially completed after the contents were further enriched, and are predicted to be output by the end of this year (before the next working group meeting). on the sub-group meeting, the representatives discussed the articles submitted and the working plans for the future, in addition to which, a series of new research contents were proposed; for example, the research on life scenarios and social requirements was added to that on users’ requirements; the research on spectrum sharing was developed in the aspect of spectrum utilization; and the technical assessment system would be established.

the summary meeting was held on the morning of december 1st and hosted by prof. you xiaohu, secretary-general of the forum, on which the chairman of each group reported the content and the achievements they have made on the sub-group meetings. then, the experts made favorable appraisement on the output of the working group meeting and proposed certain suggestions and expectations on the future work of the working groups. the experts thought that the forum’s work in the past year laid a good foundation for the future and expected the forum to further define the working objectives and research content while supported by the government, to offer more assistance to the government in decision making and generate more influence on the standardization. moreover, the experts suggested that future forum should take in various powers so as to expand the research scope of b3g technology. at last, prof. you xiaohu made a summary and gave full marks for the work that had been done by the working groups, as well as put forward some suggestions for the working to be followed. he promised that the secretariat would support and aid the working groups as much as possible, try its best to make effective propaganda, improve the activation system and win the support from various domains. prof. you hoped that future forum could play a proper role and cooperate with all the insight human resources to promote the development of future mobile communication technology.

in the open-day activities held in the trial field on november, representatives from more than 30 domestic and foreign enterprises and research institutes, including china telecom, china unicom, huawei, zte, datang mobile, siemens, alcatel (shanghai), nokia, france telecom, ericsson, motorola, etri and ntt docomo, were invited to pay a visit to the trial field where they also heard the introduction of the experts. all the representatives showed great interest in and deemed quite highly of the achievements gained in the future project and the on-site trials. the implementation of china’s future project played a significant role in the promotion of china’s r&d in the mobile communication field and enabled china to become an important part in the development of the next generation mobile communication technology all over the world, while bringing along the development of 3g evolution technology including td-scdma technology and greatly improving the sustainable developing ability of china mobile communication industry.
