workshop on the next generation mobile communication technologies and applications 2013, hosted by future forum, supported by japan-china information and communications technology forum, yrp r&d promotion committee, and radio communication systems technical committee, ieice, opened on july 31st of 2013 in guiyang regal poly hotel. over 50 experts from nearly 30 chinese and japanese research institutes, universities, and core enterprises attend this workshop. leaders from department of international cooperation of most and embassy of japan in china addressed on this workshop giving congratulations on the fruitful results of the sino-japan academic communication, offering suggestions and expectation on the further and closer cooperation in the future.

the rapid growth of smart terminals and mobile internet applications brought new opportunities and challenges for the development of mobile communications, so the enhanced 4g technologies and the 5g technologies become the focus of advanced technological research. prof. you xiaohu summarized the orientation and trend of the development of 5g cellular mobile communication, which is to develop more space resource, such as large-scale mimo technologies and intensive distributed network to break through the technical limitation. the evolution and breakthrough of 4g and 5g technologies will be focused on intensive networking, intelligent network, ubiquitous sharing protocols, and convergence of wireless and wired technologies.

the progresses on the next generation wireless transmission and network was fully introduced and discussed on the workshop, including high-effective spectrum utilization, interference coordination, coding modulation, and energy control. in addition, several advanced technologies such as general control of various wireless access technologies, wireless d2d technology, green communication, iot, and mmw, were also introduced and discussed on this workshop. finally, the experts participating in sino-japan joint fund which has been implementing for almost 2 years and gained remarkable results introduced the progresses of the research project.
