on july 27th and 28th of 2006, the second working group conference of future mobile communication forum was held in hongyun hall of xiyuan hotel in beijing. the conference was attended by mr. zhang xinsheng, the vice director of department of science and technology of ministry of information industry, mr. yu shengduo, section chief of department of science and technology of ministry of information industry, academician wu hequan, chairman of future mobile communication forum, prof. you xiaohu, vice chairman of future mobile communication forum, prof. zhang ping, dr. hiroyuki otsuka, dr. zhuang jing, and representatives from numbers of member enterprises and institutions.
the conference, attended by over 100 representatives, was scheduled to last for two days. the number of the articles submitted to each group reached an all-time high with various subjects involving all the aspects and levels in the researches. the representatives had heated discussions on the submitted articles and proposed many positive suggestions on the conference which laid a firm foundation for the research work in the future.

the conclusive conference was held on the afternoon of july 28th and hosted by prof. zhang ping, the vice secretary-general of future forum. mr. wu hequan, dean of chinese academy of engineering, made a speech expressing a fond hope for future forum. in his speech, mr. wu mentioned that future forum, established at a proper time, should function as a fine platform for international cooperation as well as for the combination of production, advocacy, research and application. he hoped that future forum could make remarkable contributions to the standardization of the world’s mobile communication, not only focusing on the output of articles, but also accumulating experience in various research modes of new and high technology and consequently expanding these techniques into more research fields.

then the heads of the six working groups made conclusive reports on the contents they had discussed and the fruits they had obtained on the conference. after hearing the reports made by the six groups, the leaders expressed their affirmation to the achievements obtained on this conference and put forward certain suggestions on the organization and contents of the conference. prof. you xiaohu, the vice secretary-general of future forum summarized the working effects of the previous phase and expatiated the plan for the development in the future. according to prof. you, future forum, operating effectively with a proper organization structure, had established formal cooperative relationships with some foreign organizations and successfully organized numbers of scholarly communications, as well as conducted certain researches including those entrusted by the government. the target for the current phase is to compose the white papers and to select some articles of high quality from those submitted ones to publish in volumes when possible.

mr. zhang xinsheng, vice director of department of science and technology, made a conclusion for the conference. he said that the conference had been properly prepared and a great advancement had been achieved in the members’ participation and the quality and quantity of the submitted articles. mr. zhang hoped that future forum could further clarify the working objectives, enhance the communication and cooperation, and improve the working capability in order to play a proper role in the development of broadband wireless technology as well as to make great contributions to the domestic development by finding out a technology-related pattern that could bring along an economic increase in the future.

based on the previous conferences and communications, each working group had more intensive understanding of the research targets and demands of the forum, so compared with the previous conferences, more representatives attended the conference and more articles were submitted. all the members are active and enthusiastic in the researches and have obtained remarkable achievements for the current phase. in the future, the forum will work in a more flexible manner, with an open attitude, to cooperate with all the relative enterprises and institutions to promote the development of the future mobile communication.
