the 6th sino-japan workshop on the next generation mobile communication technology and application opened on september 17th of 2011 in hilton niseko village in japan. the workshop, attended by over 60 officials and experts from chinese and japanese information communication research institutes and enterprises, focused on the key technologies and technical evolution in the next generation information communication field, while discussing and communicating on the sino-japan joint fund on wireless and mobile communication research.

the annual sino-japan workshop, jointly hosted by future forum, japan-china information and communications technology forum, yrp r&d promotion committee, radio communication systems technical committee, ieice, has been successively held for five years. this is the first time for this workshop to be held in japan. the 6th workshop was attended by seu, tsinghua university, hust, uestc xidian university, peking university, ustc, catr of miit, datang telecom, and zte, while the japanese participants include national institute of information and communications technology, yrp international alliance institute, kyoto university, tohoku university, sophia university, the university of electro-communications, kogakuin university, docomo beijing communications labs, and nec laboratories china.

the opening ceremony was hosted by mr. fumihiko nakagawa, assistant to president of yrp r&d promotion committee, on which mr. akio motai, president of yrp r&d promotion committee, mr. akira okubo, director general of hokkaido bureau of telecommunications, ministry of international affairs and communications, prof. you xiaohu, secretary-general of future forum, dr. shingo ohmori, vice president of yrp r&d promotion committee, and prof. susumu yoshida from kyoto university, respectively gave addresses, reviewing the course of sino-japan communication in information communication field and substantial fruits, expecting more practical communication and cooperation project on the next generation mobile communication technologies.

first, mr.hiroki taniguchi, deputy director, land mobile communications division, radio department, telecommunications bureau, ministry of internal affairs and communications, gave the keynote speech on mobile communications in japan. during the two-day workshop, over 30 elaborate speeches were made in six sessions, respectively hosted by prof. you xiaohu from seu, prof. wang jing from tsinghua university, prof. jiao bingli from peking university, prof. susumu yoshida from kyoto university, prof. fumiyuki adachi from tohoku university, prof. takeshi hattori from sophia university. the presentations mainly focus on 4g mobile communications, key techniques for microwave and terahertz communications, key technologies for self-organization networks, key technique research for satellite communications, anti-disaster and emergency communications, and key technologies for mobile internet, covering many hot technologies, such as mimo, comp, td-lte, satellite full-service emergency communications, carrier aggregation, wideband millimerter-wave, cognitive radio, and hybrid multiple access system.

during the panel discussion, prof. you xiaohu and other five project leaders had an in-depth discussion with the experts on the release and application of sino-japan joint fund on wireless and mobile communication research. the joint fund, financed by five chinese state key laboratories on wireless communication, collaborated by future forum, has drawn great attention from chinese and japanese scholars and experts. the fund will rely on the sion-japan technical exchanges; integrate the advantages of both sides in mobile communication field; and be committed to define and dominate the development orientation and key technologies of future information communications.
